al white (10 out of 10 ) The movie is about a man in the dying process after getting shot during Vietnam. Then he has major hallucinations from the drugs they put him on back at the medical unit of his platoon. It is true they used the drug b/z to make soldiers crazy but that only added to his hallucinations. Jacob was stabbed and dying, during his dying faze he was trying to hang on to the physical life but was slipping into the next life as proven when his little boy who died earlier in his life came to meet him on the steps into heaven. That is where the movie stops because he no longer holds on he decides to go on to the next existence with his son. I know because I had an identical experience during a motorcycle accident in 2001. I died 3 times and during that time all my hallucinations wee similar. I myself have never been in a war but my uncles and father have, they were military men, well decorated. I was struggling to hold on to life and the morphine gave me severe hallucinations, I was flying in a helicopter over enemy territory while hanging from a noose held under my arms and being shot at. I would then find myself in a bamboo hut trying to fight with enemy soldiers with machine guns. The worst thing of all is that I was in tormenting pain from being shot. This pain was real due to the motorcycle accident, but it came into my hallucinations for the 10 days I was in a medically induced coma to prevent me from dying due to all my injuries. To make a long story short, the directors of this movie really must have had a similar experience because I can't imagine anyone knowing this turmoil without having had an experience like it.
EVAN (9 out of 10 ) Quite simply a genius piece of work. Wonderfully intriguing and gritty.
Don't drink too much when you see this! Beautiful and harrowing at the same time, kinda reminds me of the alien abduction mystery Fire In The Sky. Quality cinematography. The theme I surmise is the futility of war.
mike (10 out of 10 ) Very good script. I like that they had a few omitted scenes and the alternate ending. Peace.
